The 90s… an era that was characterized by all things simple yet delightful. From the joy of listening to music on the modest walkman to the fun of pulling the metal shutter of floppy discs… those were the days when a lot of today’s technology was at its advent, but had still not taken over our life.
To overcome the nascent technologies we also found many smart hacks. Creating our playlist by cutting and pasting a sequence of our favourite songs, or manually aligning the television antenna to tune and receive the signals, or rebooting the Windows 95 PC whenever it threw an error!

That Train Journey
The fondest memories of those summer vacations began with a very sleepy you being dragged out of your bed, so that you don’t miss that early morning train. Rushing to the railway platform (with you still in your night suit perhaps), and there you hear the train whistle. Your eyes light up. Coz now it was time to enjoy a beautiful journey. And, the time to sit at the window seat.
In just one journey, you lived so many moments. Right from taking turns as to who’s going to sleep on which berth, to sharing dabbas with your family, and often with strangers, too (who at the time, were as much of a family!).
From waving out to random people waiting at the platform, to teasing those little monkeys who were sitting on one of the railway tracks, train journeys evoke the most special memories ever.
Oh, and what fun if it was one of those overnight journeys, when you just couldn’t understand why the moon wouldn’t stop following you. Dazzled by the moon in the night sky, the very innocent you thought that it is following you simply coz it loves you so much. Well, it did! But, then, there were some astronomical reasons and explanations, too, behind it all!
And, while your curious little eyes couldn’t contain all that they saw, your heart knew that this was pure joy. The joy of being with loved ones. The joy of new experiences. The joy of meeting new people. The joy of simple pleasures. The joy of being…at the window seat!
